Religious Studies aims to encourage all students to engage with the main religions of today's world, as well as popular world-views and non-religious views. The courses help students to understand different perspectives on the ultimate questions in life, for example, "Who am I?" and "When does life begin?"  

Following a course in Religious Studies is essential in today's modern world, to be able to interact with others of different religious faith and non. It also encourages independence of thought and gives students the opportunity to become responsible for their own views on some of the biggest questions in life.  As the world changes and becomes more diverse, the skills of argument and comprehension of different viewpoints become increasingly critical.

GCSE Religious Studies

At Key Stage 4, students follow the AQA Religious Studies course which covers religious beliefs and practice from the perspective of Christianity and Islam. There are also a variety of different ethical issues, such as Religion, crime and punishment and religion, peace and conflict, which enable students to reflect on the different attitudes towards the topic. The course is varied to allow students to approach the different topics from both a religious and a non-religious point of view, and ultimately they are expected to form and support their own views on the issues.  We have had some excellent examination results in recent years and Religious Studies is an increasingly popular option choice at KS4. 

A Level Religious Studies

In recent years, Religious Studies was offered at Key Stage 5 and followed the AQA specification, although it is not being offered currently. We hope to expand our Humanities A Level option subjects to include Religious Studies as well as AQA Philosophy in the near future.
